A great disadvantage to rule followers is a reluctance to shamelessly seize victory. Principle is a foundation that has set apart the highest quality peoples of the world, but it has greatest relevance only when building a civilization and bonding together its contributors. When a civilization begins to decline, principles that used to constitute virtues, quickly become handicaps.
This impulse can be seen in one's earliest recollections of sport and contest. After one's team had taken a clear advantage in a game, gloating and mocking the enemy while demoralizing and humiliating them was seen as a great vice only fit for bullies and braggarts. Soon, most individuals of great capacity were encouraged not to push their advantage to the point of savagery following victory. This behavior would serve to discourage further contests and drive opponents from the field until no one would be left to play! For example, stealing a loser's girlfriend, vandalizing their property, and inflicting violence upon them following a game would be roundly condemned as the behavior of a tyrant, and the society would inflict appropriate social measures to prevent any reoccurence of these behaviors. And indeed, these behaviors in a social contest among peers should be roundly condemned, as they undermine society and weaken social bonds between competitors who should reconvene on the field of contest to again sharpen one another as iron whets iron.
However, what happens when these social sanctions are lifted for one side alone? What happens when the victor is allowed to plunder social positive regard following a victory? What becomes of a culture where the victor claims sexual conquests from the loser's women following victory and advocates for breeding the losers out of existence? Where does a society end up when violence against the losers of civilized social contests escalate to the point of extermination? One cannot retain their principles when they face an enemy who has none!
The enemy has won through lies, apathy, cunning, sophistry, threats, violence, nepotism and a savage disregard for basic principles of fairness, forgiveness, gentlemanly conduct, and honor. And clinging to one's honor when facing a dishonorable enemy risks exposing great weaknesses to that enemy, and encouraging them to conduct further attacks with ever more brazen offenses to human dignity.
Some of the principled are now beginning to understand that abandoning principles of fair play is the first casualty of war. They are beginning to understand that this conflict is not fucking sportsball where a referee can intervene when someone throws an elbow. They are learning not only to strategize, but to militarize, not just to respond to underhanded tactics, but to prevent them, and triumph over them. And they are beginning to rise beaten from the field after one too many illegal elbows to realize that winning will require worse measures in return. Some of the principled still believe the referees will intervene and that they can continue to fight opponents as fair competitors. But enough are beginning to realize that they must defeat the bullies with their own tactics, and then hold the referees to account and replace them.
To win will require them to dig deep into those tactics they were never allowed to practice and acknowledge that the enemy are not friends who they wish to ever face again in combat. They must seize victory when it is possible rather than allowing the enemy a fair chance to prevail. They must gloat haughtily when the enemy is outsmarted and strike where they are most sensitive following their injury. They must ignore pleas to the principles that failed. They must appropriate enemy women, mock the weaknesses of their men, and deny them the resources to regroup. They must make the enemy regret ever abandoning principle, and when the beaten plead for forgiveness, the sorry enemy should be met only with stony resolve and a doubling down on brutal reprisals. The aggrieved must do so with all means at their disposal in full accordance with the law, provided that the law is still being enforced equitably. This enemy has shown itself fully and the only missing component to victory is a team willing to use the same tactics in turn.
Finally, when the battle has been won and the enemies driven from the field with no desire to ever fight again, the victors must learn not only to role model the heroes of the fight, but to beware the examples of fallen antiheroes. The qualities that win a battle are made stronger through that victory. When one is allowed to win through fair debate, logical consideration of the facts, tempered discussion, and continual appeal to first principles, those qualities are strengthened. However, when one wins through deception, intimidation, brutality, and merciless sociopathy, those traits can insidiously prevail. Despite the necessity of compromising one's ethics, a monster is fed. And if one is not very careful, that slumbering beast weaned quietly on poisonous prey may soon grow into a more vile threat than the enemy it was originally raised to destroy.

In Order to Win, One Must Allow Themselves to Win
Eating the Army for Breakfast
Recently, out of the clear blue, I've developed congestive heart failure from high blood pressure at an atypically young age. The mixture of a high stress lifestyle, above normal bodyweight for an extended period of time, and a tendency to indulge in high carb foods have taken an enormous toll on my health which is now becoming difficult to conceal from myself or others. I've walked, sprinted, lifted, and kickboxed to the point where I pack "power in my pocket" and stand a good chance of defending myself and others with or without supplementary weaponry. However, my own heart is having trouble keeping up, and I know very well the risks of continuing to exert myself with this condition.
I've also dieted conscientiously for the past 2 years. Intermittent fasting, cutting out all fats, and one meal a day have all failed. So far, the one attempt with any success has been a week long stint with ketosis dieting, which I'm pleased to report almost immediately reversed symptoms and resulted in much greater energy after a miserable transition through a debilitating keto flu lasting 3 days. Considering the success of this approach, and my seeming inability to keep fucking weight off while eating even healthy sources of carbs, I'm now at the cusp of an unprecedented experiment.
One reason I haven't attempted a ketosis reset earlier had to do with the cognitive demands of my post. Going foggy was not an option. However, given the severity of my symptoms and the inevitable ending of a certain early death, I will need to take my chances. For the next 6 weeks, I am going without starches or sugars to the extent possible and subsisting solely on meat, eggs, select nuts, cheese, and green vegetables. This worked incredibly well during my first experiment, however I also fear losing strength. Given the charged political environment and my implied obligation to be ready when called to engage and eliminate threats to my family, loss of physical power would be unacceptable. However, since I now don't have a choice in the matter, I've needed to devise a method for maintaining adequate strength, while losing maximal strength as a tactical trade off. I call my approach Eating the Army for Breakfast.
The workout is a simple morning routine meant to be completed as quickly as possible 5-6 days a week in conjunction with a daily routine of walking. For time, I will complete 100 bodyweight squats, 35-50 pushups, and 35-50 situps followed by a brisk jog, or in other words, maintain a capacity to exceed the Army's old physical fitness standards while my body is in the throes of ketosis induced exhaustion and weakness. If successful, I should be able to break through the keto slump into full ketosis without losing significant amounts of muscle. It is meant to be a consistent stress that will not overwhelm the recovery capacity of my systems under ketosis and will set adequate physical fitness as a baseline to which my systems will adapt, when I become fully keto-adapted. In other words, I will attempt to purposefully LOSE strength but only to the point of being as strong as a passable Army recruit. I hope this will have the simultaneous effect of reversing my declining health while also retaining practical self defense capacity.
In conjunction with these additional workouts, I will maintain lifting kettlebells, pullups, dips, and high kicking exercises. If that doesn't put me back in healthy shape, my time is probably up no matter what I do.
Tl;dr: For 6 weeks, no carbs. 5-6 days a week: 100 bodyweight squats, max pushups, max situps, run briskly. No other changes are allowable to my weekly routine. Get healthy or die trying.
I'll be updating this blog as the experiment progresses. Death is a clever enemy that will one day win. I intend to make it bleed for the privilege, and this next 6 weeks will be a surprise surge that I have good reason to believe will swing the battle in my favor.

The Five Essential Physical Practices For Ensuring Quality of Life
Introduction
In the fitness blogosphere, one encounters a deluge of lists detailing exactly what movements will guarantee 'functional capacity' and 'general preparation,' but only a precious few discuss quality of life, effective time management, and balanced development as goals. These are true indicators of fitness, which is generally misunderstood to be merely a quality of the body. 'Fitness' is better conceptualized as 'goodness of fit' between the possible demands of the environment and the capacity of the body to withstand and overcome them without incurring, sudden, cumulative, or irreparable damage. Creating a flexible regimen that can be maintained unaltered in tandem with all the nonphysical demands of life while developing adequate resilience is imperative for longevity.
In a martial sense, one's physical fitness routine is the most constant fight that will be faced through life. Wars and battles may be won and lost, but one's own creeping decrepitude will remain an unwavering, hidden foe that reveals itself only in glimpses and becomes stronger with age. Simple movements and bodily functions begin to degrade in quality as life progresses, and though this is a natural course, there are ways to make a spirited resistance to the process and even wage war against it. Though everyone will inevitably succumb to defeat, there is great glory in making a thorough effort to increase, maintain, or even merely slow the decline of physical robustness. The following physical practices in order of importance are essential to strategically holding ground against death if they are practiced consistently to the parameters described.
Structure and Implementation
I have ordered these movements by importance, interdependence, and sustainability. If one lacks strength or time for exercise, at least movement 1 should be performed, which will serve as preparation over time to train movement 2 given sufficient effort, which lays the groundwork for movement 3, and so forth. This progressive addition of steps is intended for the enhancement and remediation of adult physical robustness for those who are beginning to feel the effects of aging, and is not necessarily applicable to adolescent development. If a higher level movement becomes impossible to sustain, or injuries prevent it, do not despair. Merely subtract that movement until the precluding injury or health condition heals, or there is enough time to incorporate it. But one should never stop moving at all the levels they are able to accommodate. The more fundamental movements will sustain one's strength adequately during periods of incapacity.
These movements must be practiced nearly every day in order to effectively resist and repel aging. They are all intended to be whole body exercises that maintain muscle tone, gently recirculate and stress test the systems of the body, and provide direct preparation for acute, unpredictable environmental demands. From least to greatest, one can discern the complete spectrum of athletic development and decline. It is the hubris of youth to assume that effortless performance at higher levels of these movements grants one a reprieve from practicing the former movements. Failure to use ALL these movements as close to daily as possible will inevitably result in a complete loss of the neglected movements and a precipitous decline in strength and morale. Everyone who can must train these movements because the only alternative is death by degrees. Losing any of these movements should be treated with the same gravity as ceding territory to an enemy combatant. Retreat if forced, but do not ever cease the objective to retake lost ground.
Progress in these practices may not be immediately apparent, and this slowness of progress is incrementally more pronounced as one regresses further down to the most foundational practices. Reaping ALL the physical benefits of walking, for example, may require over 6 months of persistent, near-daily practice. By contrast, the benefits of sprinting intervals may be discernible in as little as a week. It is myopic, however, to conflate the immediacy of one's observed benefits with the priority of the movement. Though it may take many more years of neglect to lose one's ability to walk, the skill will be much more sorely missed by the sufferer than the ability to run quickly.
1. Walking for Time and Distance
This practice is nonnegotiable. One must walk, with or without assistance, with moderate intensity for at least 3 hours per week (2 hours, if all other movements are included) for as many miles as possible. Split up the time any way desired, but make it happen. One can do 1 hour per walk for 3 times per week, 45 minutes for 4 times, or 30 minutes for 6 times. The author finds that walking incorporates all the most important martial capacities: awareness, discipline, and resistance to austerity. It requires you to dynamically discern safe, dependable routes, practice avoidance of choke points, be mindful while planning ahead, maintain balance, and endure healthy discomfort over time. Physically, walking requires and gradually builds robustness of the musculature of the lower body, which takes a couple months to discern, the connective tissues and bones in the feet, ankles, knees, hips, and core which takes half a year to discern, and the cardiovascular system which may progressively adapt for years given a diet rich in natural sources of Vitamin C, which reinforces arterial tissue stressed through walking.
The health benefits of walking emerge from the peculiar way that the circulatory systems of the body function. Unlike a purely mechanical system, the circulatory systems of the body past a certain age and body mass index do not adequately circulate in the absence of supplemental movement. Failure to walk can result in digestive, cardiovascular, and lymphatic illnesses due to insufficient circulation. Consistent walking actually facilitates completion for many of the body's functions and is therefore the most necessary physical skill. During times when walking is not safely possible, one must hope they can engage in the other practices and put enough effort into them to prevent decline. The lower body strength and systemic preparation built through walking sets the stage for practice 2.
2. Squat Resting for Time
For at least 2 minutes per day, one should endeavor to rest in as low of a squat as their (in)flexibility will allow. This is the default rest position for most people in the world and inability to maintain this position will plague one with lower body pain, movement restrictions, various weaknesses throughout the body, and the development of a tendency to look for chairs when standing, which if heeded often enough will begin to confine one to them. When standing up out of the low squat position, the arms should be extended straight above the head vertically as close to the ears as possible. This will gradually improve the flexibility of the spine, shoulders, knees, and hips. Repeating this movement several times per day, or better yet, investigating hygienic methods of squatting to eliminate, will necessitate daily practice without the need to schedule any explicit squatting practice. If one becomes proficient with squatting in this way, they are prepared for the rigors of crawling.
If one cannot squat, practicing sitting and standing, holding a squat isometrically against a wall, and attempting to squat lower over time while holding onto a counter or other stable structure for assistance are productive alternatives. Do not allow inability to complete the unassisted movement to discourage the practice of these preparatory steps daily, as one will obviously reap more benefits from the attempt than from giving up.
3. Crawling for Distance
Crawling is the original movement, and as such, it is the first exercise any of us regularly practice as infants. However, once it is lost, it is very difficult to regain. This is because, as a developmental precursor for walking, it is HARDER than walking. An infant learning to crawl actually gains more strength through crawling than they ultimately require to stand up and walk. Therefore, when this skill is lost, it is harder to regain than walking or squatting. The benefit to this difficulty is that crawling alone can provide nearly all the physical muscularity and strength an adult will likely ever need provided that the crawl is accomplished low to the ground using only the hands and feet as contact points. The squat precedes the crawl in this hierarchy, because one must be able to safely lower to the floor and stand up from it before they have any business crawling over it. One must continue to squat however to continue effortlessly transitioning from walking to crawling without pain. This author crawls for at least 30 steps forward and 30 steps backward after strength workouts, or interspersed throughout the day. If a strength workout is unfeasible due to time constraints, doubling the amount of steps forward and backward can usually approximate the muscular benefits of any calisthenics routine, especially for those who are heavier than their normal body mass index score. Crawling before a daily walk is a good practice and the period of exhaustion after crawling is an optimal time to rest in the low squat for 1-2 minutes. For a period of weeks, the author practiced ONLY the low forward and backward crawl with no loss in strength during single leg squats, pushups, dips, and pullups. The muscularity built through crawling sets a foundation for lifting.
4. Carrying/Lifting for Repetitions
Carrying and lifting weight should be done in a way that mirrors how the movement is naturally performed under conditions of austerity, with weights that enable high repetitions over time. Single armed Olympic lifts with dumbbells or kettlebells are sufficient for this purpose and also serve to further condition the cardiovascular system to endure an enormous volume of stress. This author opts for 200 repetitions per week of the kettlebell snatch with 24 kg and 100 with 16 kg, though 250 clean and jerks per week with a 55 pound dumbbell can be as effective, or simply carrying a moderate weight for distance, such as a heavy pack held by one hand at a time. Lifting for high repetitions prepares the cardiovascular system for athletic stressors, strengthens the grip, and inoculates the spine and lower back against injuries resulting from acute lifting stress. If one is able to lift moderate weights easily for many repetitions, it becomes possible to safely practice sprinting for speed.
5. Sprinting for Speed
Sprinting is running as fast as you are able for short distances. To incorporate this as a daily activity, one may simply sprint for speed for 3-5 intervals of 50-100 yards during daily walks. It should be noted that jogging, or running for distance is NOT included as a required activity due to the abundance of overuse injuries and pains that are nearly inevitable for those who run for distance. If one requires more conditioning than walking, sprinting is more than adequate for the job, and also adds an element of explosiveness which develops a resilience against sudden physical stress by all systems of the body. It is recommended to perform sprint intervals on hills which will increase posterior muscular activation, reduce the maximum speed attainable, and correspondingly reduce the potential for both acute and cumulative injuries.
Preserving the Routine
It should be emphasized that ALL of the practices listed must be performed as close to daily as possible. These 'exercises' are selected to constitute core practices that characterize a healthy human being and as such, one should be able to perform them with modest volume nearly daily without ill effects. Inability to continue with this routine and improve in health might warn of an underlying health concern for which a medical consultation may prove helpful. The reader is wished the best of luck, and resolution in their fight to the death against dysfunction, weakness, and pain. May this next year bring you and those you love closer to life.

Two Possible Paths Along the Martial Way
In martial preparation there are two types of people suited for one of two martial paths. The first was taught through natural consequences that one should strive to never hurt others. The second was taught through natural consequences that it's normal to hurt others. The endpoint for these individuals consists of building oneself into a powerful animal restrained by even stronger chains, but the foci of their training will differ dramatically.
The first individual was raised with very strong chains, but never learned through example how to exert physical power to hurt others. Their chains are disproportionately strong considering the weak animal they hold back. Some of these individuals may have never been hit their entire lives. For these people, building themselves into an animal powerful enough to warrant strong restraint will be their primary focus.
The second person has been hurt by others their entire lives. They have been beaten into an anxious, angry, ruthless animal who already knows how to harm others and has been given weak chains of self restraint. Their primary focus will be soothing their savagery and building strong enough chains to retreat from the cycle of violence that made them dangerous. Mindfulness and self discipline will become their most productive foci.
Regardless of origin, the martial path leads all to the same pinnacle: an exceptionally dangerous person restrained by unbreakable bonds of self control.

The European Rape-ugee Crisis
Just as recently as January 4th 2016 in Cologne, Germany, a wave of riots, rapes, and sexual assaults erupted against German citizens. I don't care about the details, nor do I share any compassion for the victims. Germans, you have all shared responsibility in your collective self destruction. Now you are facing the richly deserved fruits of collaboration, self abnegation, and pathological altruism.
Let's take a small sample of the measures your people have self inflicted, and the rewards you have reaped:
*Speech codes and a culture of guilt prevent anyone from openly speaking out about clearly observable facts such as the open rape and assault of German citizens by Muslim invaders.
*Disarmament policies leave you all unprepared and ill equipped to defend yourselves against said invaders, some of whom inexplicably HAVE GUNS in your supposedly gun-free country.
*Political feminism has all but welcomed the ravages of Muslim aggression into every orifice of German society from the highest to the lowest by attacking normal German men as sexists while tacitly permitting and covering up ACTUAL MUSLIM RAPES of German women.
The time has come to overcome your country's reflexive fear of nationalism. At this juncture it is your last ditch chance for survival. The following measures would be necessary to stem the tide and eventually restore your country to peace. First, the government must unilaterally expel all so-called refugees without exception and secure the border with armed outposts. Second, you must allow private ownership of firearms to civilians effective immediately in order to allow for self defense while the Muslim threat is consolidated and expunged from the country. All measures up to and including occupation of government facilities should be considered in order to accomplish militarization of the citizenry. Third, the people must hold all politicians responsible for encouraging Muslim invasion to a public trial on charges of treason. Death for such individuals will not be necessary, but they MUST be tried publicly, and they MUST be dishonorably banned from politics for the remainder of their natural lives at minimum.
I understand none of these measures are possible in Germany, which is why I take a degree of schadenfreude in watching Muslims recolonize your lands and people. Did none of you consider how weak men and bullheaded women would set the stage for outright invasion? Did no one pay attention to Islamists who openly promised to rape your women and colonize your country? Are there no German men willing or able to fight back, even in this late hour? Considering how ignominiously your country has fallen from fearsome empire to cuckolded puppet state, I can only look forward to the day that Germany's subjugation is complete and the death rattles of its gelded citizenry will no longer trouble the international community.

The Reluctantly Militant
War, much like any natural disaster, can spontaneously ravage any community of people. In the greater scope of social affairs, it constitutes the lowest point of human degradation and despair, the point at which deconstruction begins and accelerates, the devaluation of lives, and the cheapening of mortal suffering on a massive scale. No wise person engages in warfare, values its initiation, or seeks its profits. At this point in the United States, European Americans are at war with several potential enemies, both foreign and domestic. Make no mistake, the failure of our government to declare this state of war in no way minimizes the truth: we are all at war, whether we choose to acknowledge it or not.
One of the more invisible wars being waged against white European Americans is the current war of black violence against whites. Determining the reason for this violence is merely a distraction that prolongs discussion and prevents effective mobilization of whites in defense of their communities. As such, I will not discuss those reasons or humor them here except to say they are illogical and founded on a cult of black victimhood. The important issue is to arm and militarize white communities in this time of war.
The decision to go to war cannot be an act sanctioned by a governing body. It begins with each warrior's personal conviction that certain battles are more important than the preservation of an unjust, tenuous state of peace. This decision can be hastened by certain decisive events which hold enough symbolic power to motivate a community to mobilize toward arms.
A couple of these events have already happened for me. I will name them here as bullets in my magazine.
The first two bullets in my magazine are named Amanda, after Amanda Blackburn, and Evie, after Everette Blackburn. Amanda was a pastor's wife who, on the morning of November 10th 2015 was shot to death during a break in by 3 black men. She was pregnant with Evie, who was unborn, and home alone with her other 15 month old child, Weston who was physically unharmed by the intruders. Amanda's husband, Davey, left for the gym early that morning, an opportunity which the 3 black cowards capitalized upon by breaking in. These same men had already completed an earlier robbery of an apartment in which one of the men suggested killing the tenant. This same man was talked down by the others. However, upon being left alone in the Blackburn house, he was attacked by Amanda and shot her in the chest. Evidence is ambiguous on whether a rape occurred. Next, the man shot her in the back of the head and proceeded to watch her bleed out until he eventually left the home of the murdered wife and unborn child with a 15 month old left alone in another room awaiting the return of Davey Blackburn, the tragic survivor of this act of open barbarism. The two bullets in my magazine are dedicated to Amanda and Evie in hopes that they either prevent another act of violence against my own loved ones or stand as unfired, perpetual memorials to the end of open racial warfare in this country.
My next bullet is named Logan after Logan Tipton, a 6 year old boy who was fatally stabbed to death in his bed by a black man who also attacked his siblings. This act occurred early December 2015. Following the fatal, unprovoked stabbing of the 6 year old boy, the boy's father subdued and held the perpetrator until police could arrive to arrest him. It is worth honoring that the father had access to the knife and could have chosen a very different course than restraint. Bullet 3 honors Logan's life. May it ever remain unfired.
Bullet 4 is named Mitchell after Mitchell White, a father who was shot by a 20 year old black man while defending his son from attack by another black man. Bullet 4 remembers you, Mitchell, as a good father to the bitter end, and it's my earnest hope that I can keep it safe in my magazine unneeded in the defense of those I love.
More bullets are certain to be named as months pass... As my magazine count grows, so too will my armament requirements.
While some would denigrate my decision to honor these deaths in this way, I follow a martial morality: the iron rule. All of these cases exhibit some variation of the golden rule as a comfort to those harmed, and while I do not dishonor the survivors' decisions to forgive these perpetrators, I cannot ever share their forgiveness. Forgiveness can only end violence when applied to those capable of remorse. The black community has shown only apathy or support for these brutal war crimes. I pick these memorials because each of them are innocent lives lost to the European American community within the past year. A pastor's wife, an unborn child, a 6 year old football fan, a caring father are just some of the many lives lost. These were good people, all preyed upon by black perpetrators. How these acts occurring so close together are not calls to arms for white European Americans across the country is a great tragedy to our people. Reluctance to arm oneself for war is a great virtue in times of peace, but it becomes an equally great act of cowardice and weakness in the face of a determined evil.
I will not share in the dishonor of a false peace. I will be perpetually armed from here on out until a clear end to these killings. I vow that my community and loved ones will not stand to suffer wartime atrocities at the hands of a ruthless enemy. I have already laid my life down to the ending of this state of war, and that is how all true wars begin: at the point that a warrior is willing to fight back and die in the defense of honor. You, hapless readers, have a choice to make. Be a collaborator in the destruction of your families and communities, or stand your ground, protect your own, and resist. Those who ever physically attack me or mine in any size of group will be neutralized with lethal force. This is a promise, delivered calmly, with no antagonism. In equal measure, I promise only one condition to my enemy. Those of you who do not physically attack me or mine will never need to fear violence. If you die by my hand, you commit suicide. If your black life matters, you'd be advised to pick a softer target, or abandon violence before you pick one of the growing number of whites who have less and less reasons to care whether you live or die as a consequence of lawful self defense.

Bullet 5 is named Michael after Mike Gilotti, a father, husband, and Iraq veteran shot to death on his front doorstep as he left for the gym on January 5, 2016. Four black miscreants were later seen with his truck. Bullet 5 memorializes a good man.
Bullets 6, 7, 8, and 9 remember the unjust deaths of Phillip, Amy, and Savvas Savopoulos and their housekeeper Veralicia Figueroa, all of whom were tortured to death for the pleasure of a black perpetrator who even left the ransom money which was the original pretext for the murders.

Balancing One's Martial Character Through Training
The concept of balance constitutes a foundational principle of martial development. To truly walk the martial path to an asymptote of human development requires a great deal of work parsing out the myriad qualities that distinguish exceptional living from more mundane survival. To accurately identify the balance point in any endeavor, one must experience both deficiency and excess to accurately discern moderation.
For example, the author once set out to lose weight down to his exact recommended BMI (body mass index) through rigorous endurance training and fasting. This resulted in a very small, efficient body type ideal for another goal: the attainment of a one armed pullup. However, the pullup goal was actually prevented by the loss of weight. As muscle mass decreased, so too did relative strength, such that pullup strength became progressively less. Despite very heavy training on lat development, improvements in pullup strength slowed and then halted. In addition to this disheartening plateau, the author gradually suffered a case of full body tendonitis which developed over a course of months of weight lifting and martial arts training. The extent of joint stiffness and strength loss could not be counteracted by supplements or medications and the author decided to abandon the goal of maximizing strength in a minimal body frame.
The author began exclusively focusing on martial technique training, dropped endurance training beyond pressure testing martial techniques, added slower conventional calisthenics without one armed variations, and quit fasting to free feed for a period of months. Almost immediately, muscle tone improved, joint stiffness abated then disappeared, and martial power increased progressively as techniques projected more and more power. Yet this correction went too far as well when the author discovered that the strength of his cardiovascular system could not match his muscular output. High blood pressure and shortness of breathe plagued every exertion. This excess demanded a return to balance.
The author found a balance point between these extremes by adding limited endurance training and fasting every 2 weeks in addition to hill sprinting followed by restricted breathing 2 to 5 times per week to build cardiovascular resistance to hypoxic stress. By limiting the duration of these activities a better balance was struck between nimble endurance and muscular power. Further, maintaining a physical balance required far less effort than maximizing either endurance or strength..
This physical illustration of personal balance also finds a parallel in the balancing of one's character. Many of the author's mentors and friends in the martial arts community struggle to control their responses to violence after lives filled with abuse, aggression, fear, and danger. The author however, was introduced to the martial arts community from the opposite extreme: childhood was a time of safety and fairness, hence there was an underdevelopment of aggressive potential. This yielded a person thoroughly unprepared for the demands of violent confrontation. It remains a humbling experience for the author to meet any other martial artist with a very dissimilar background who nevertheless walks a similar balance. Further, it demonstrates that martial development can begin from very different trailheads, but all paths converge on a single peak. The experience of this sublime convergence between dissimilar people is one of the great rewards of walking the martial way, and for this author it engenders a profound peace.
